Comprehensive, Neurodiversity-Affirming ADHD Evaluations
Available in Houston, TX and via secure telehealth
If you are seeking a thoughtful, thorough, and neurodiversity-affirming ADHD evaluation in Houston, TX—or prefer the convenience of a virtual ADHD evaluation—I offer comprehensive assessments designed to understand the whole individual, not just a list of symptoms. I evaluated children and teens. Click here for more information on adult evaluations.
What to Expect From the ADHD Evaluation Process
ADHD evaluations are available in person at my Houston office or virtually via secure telehealth. Both formats follow best practices and are tailored to provide an accurate understanding of attention, executive functioning, and self-regulation across settings.
The evaluation is typically completed in one appointment.
For child assessments, this includes:
An in-depth parent interview reviewing developmental history, behavior patterns, and school functioning
Standardized rating scales assessing attention, hyperactivity, impulsivity, and executive functioning
Clinical interview and behavioral observations appropriate for the child’s age and evaluation format
Appointments typically last 2–3 hours and are designed to differentiate ADHD from other developmental, emotional, or learning-related concerns.
Before the Appointment
Families will complete rating forms and questionnaires prior to the evaluation. Teacher input will also be requested as ADHD symptoms need to be observed across settings. Families may also submit videos or examples highlighting attention challenges or emotional regulation difficulties, which are particularly helpful for virtual evaluations.
Feedback & Written Report
Following the evaluation, we will schedule a 45-minute feedback session, held in person or virtually. During this session, I will:
Review diagnostic findings
Explain results in clear, accessible language
Share individualized recommendations
Answer questions and discuss next steps
Families can expect a comprehensive written report within two weeks of the feedback session.
Investment
ADHD Evaluation (In-Person): $1,800*
ADHD Evaluation (Virtual): $1,500
*If additional testing is recommended—such as developmental, cognitive, or academic assessment—there is an additional fee of $900, which requires a second testing appointment.

Your child may benefit from an ADHD evaluation if they have ongoing difficulties with attention, impulsivity, hyperactivity, organization, emotional regulation, or completing daily tasks that interfere with functioning at home, school, or in social settings.
Common signs that may indicate the need for an ADHD assessment include:
Difficulty sustaining attention or following directions
Easily becoming distracted or losing track of tasks
Excessive activity, restlessness, or difficulty sitting still
Impulsive behaviors, interrupting, or acting without thinking
Challenges with organization, time management, or completing assignments
Emotional regulation difficulties, frustration, or frequent meltdowns
Academic struggles despite appropriate effort and support
Concerns reported by parents, teachers, or other caregivers
An ADHD evaluation can help determine whether your child’s challenges are related to ADHD or another factor, such as learning differences, anxiety, developmental concerns, sleep difficulties, or other areas that may impact attention and behavior.
-
ADHD in children can be diagnosed by qualified professionals with specialized training in child development and ADHD assessment, including licensed psychologists, child psychiatrists, developmental-behavioral pediatricians, pediatric neurologists, and other qualified healthcare providers with experience evaluating ADHD.
A comprehensive ADHD evaluation involves more than completing a checklist or questionnaire. A qualified evaluator gathers information from multiple sources, including parent interviews, developmental history, behavioral observations, standardized rating scales, and information from school when available.
At Fein Psychology Services, Dr. Rachel Fein, PhD, BCBA provides comprehensive ADHD evaluations for children using a thorough assessment process designed to understand each child’s unique strengths, challenges, and support needs.
-
During an ADHD evaluation for children, a psychologist gathers information about your child’s development, behavior, attention skills, and daily functioning to determine whether they meet criteria for ADHD.
The evaluation process typically includes:
A parent interview to review developmental history, concerns, strengths, and challenges
Completion of standardized ADHD rating scales by parents and teachers when available
Clinical observations of your child’s attention, behavior, problem-solving, and emotional regulation
Review of school performance, classroom concerns, and previous evaluations or interventions
Additional testing, such as cognitive or academic assessment, when needed
After the evaluation, families receive feedback explaining the results, diagnostic conclusions, and personalized recommendations for supporting their child’s development, learning, behavior, and emotional well-being.
-
A neurodiversity-affirming ADHD evaluation focuses on understanding a child’s unique strengths, challenges, learning style, and developmental profile—not simply identifying symptoms or deficits.
A comprehensive ADHD evaluation may include:
Parent interview and developmental history to understand early development, behavior, attention, and areas of concern
Parent and teacher rating scales to gather information across settings
Clinical interview and behavioral observations to evaluate attention, impulsivity, activity level, executive functioning, and emotional regulation
Cognitive or academic testing (when appropriate) to better understand learning strengths and challenges
Review of factors that may contribute to attention or behavioral concerns, including anxiety, learning differences, developmental delays, and other areas of functioning
The goal of an ADHD evaluation is to provide a complete understanding of your child and create individualized recommendations for support at home, school, and in other settings.

Yes. ADHD can look different in girls, and many girls with ADHD are diagnosed later because their symptoms may be less obvious.
While some children with ADHD show noticeable hyperactivity or impulsive behavior, girls may more commonly experience challenges with:
Daydreaming or difficulty sustaining attention
Disorganization and forgetfulness
Feeling overwhelmed by school demands
Internal restlessness rather than obvious hyperactivity
Difficulty with executive functioning, planning, or completing tasks
Emotional regulation challenges
Working hard to compensate or “mask” their difficulties
A comprehensive ADHD evaluation considers how symptoms appear across settings and how they impact a child’s daily functioning rather than relying only on outward behaviors.

School accommodations, such as a 504 Plan or other educational supports
Classroom strategies and learning supports
Therapy or skills-based interventions
Executive functioning supports
Consultation with medical providers regarding treatment options when appropriate
At Fein Psychology Services, ADHD evaluations include individualized recommendations designed to help families understand their child’s strengths and identify practical next steps after diagnosis.
