What to Expect From the Autism Evaluation Process

Autism evaluations are available in person at my Houston office or virtually via secure telehealth, depending on your family’s needs, your child’s age and/or developmental profile.

The evaluation is typically completed in one appointment.

For child assessments, this includes:

  • A detailed parent interview focused on developmental history, strengths, and current concerns

  • A semi-structured and/or play-based assessment using the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition (ADOS-2) for in-person evaluations

  • For virtual evaluations, I use developmentally appropriate, evidence-based observational and interview-based tools designed for telehealth

Appointments typically last 2–3 hours and are designed to provide a nuanced, accurate understanding of your child’s unique developmental profile—whether conducted in person or virtually.

Before the Appointment

Prior to the evaluation, you will receive rating forms and questionnaires to complete. You are also encouraged to submit short videos of your child in natural settings, which are especially helpful for virtual autism evaluations and provide valuable insight into everyday communication and behavior.

Feedback & Written Report

Following the evaluation, we will schedule a 45-minute feedback session, held in person or virtually. During this session, I will:

  • Review diagnostic findings

  • Explain results in clear, accessible language

  • Share individualized recommendations

  • Answer questions and discuss next steps

Families can expect a comprehensive written report within two weeks of the feedback session.

Investment

Child Autism Evaluation (In-Person): $1,800*

Child Autism Evaluation (Virtual): $1,500

*If additional testing is recommended—such as developmental, cognitive, or academic assessment—there is an additional fee of $900, which requires a second testing appointment.
